Karina began her career in Tucson, Arizona, as a reporter for the Arizona Daily Star. She later was a staff reporter for The (Stockton) Record in California’s Central Valley, where she wrote about crime, gangs, immigration and farm workers. She has also worked as a journalist in Russia, Cuba and Mexico.

In 2010, Karina won an Overseas Press Club award for reporting from Russia and the Wiegold Award for Business Journalism from City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. She has also received numerous awards from the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club and was a runner up for Best Investigative Story from New America Media for a series on Silicon Valley’s hidden environmental dangers.

When not chasing a story, Karina enjoys salsa dancing, gardening, cycling and heading out to the coast.
