Joe Surkiewicz, a professional freelance writer, editor and media consultant, has written more than nine books (including The Unofficial Guide to San Francisco) and hundreds of articles for a wide range of magazines and newspapers ranging from the Washington Post to Outside Online. He was director of communications at the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau for 10 years and is currently the “Of Service” columnist for The Daily Record, Maryland’s legal newspaper. He is also director of communications at the Homeless Persons Representation Project in Baltimore.
