Texas must expand funding for legal aid

But this has the potential to close the gap we have now, where shrinking funds are available for an increasing number of people in need.

The help that legal aid provides can mean getting a restraining order against an abusive spouse. It can mean ensuring that an injured veteran gets that disability check. It can mean a senior citizen is provided with prescription drugs. And it can mean a family stays in its home and works through a possible foreclosure.

The issues are too important to Texans for the state to continue coming up so short in providing the aid that’s needed.
