“What’s unique about the center is that it’s client-centric,” said Susun Kim, executive director of the Contra Costa Family Justice Center, which operates a similar center in Concord. “Without it, the victim has to navigate through 20 to 30 different systems …. Here they are handed a one-page form.”

Beyond crisis intervention, victims can access housing, job-training, educational and other services that help them not only get back on their feet but thrive. Organizations such as Bay Area Legal Aid, Adult Protective Services, STAND! for Families Free of Violence, Rainbow Community Support and Familias Unidas, which works with Hispanic families, will all have permanent staff at the new center, meaning victims will no longer have to run from office to office retelling their story countless times.
