In fact, the need is so vast and the resources so meager—63 million Americans qualify for legal aid, a whopping 8,893 people for every legal aid lawyer in the country—that the situation just hasn’t resonated as a crisis for most people. Even the pro bono counsel at law firms have told us they had no idea of the magnitude of the problem until they spent time in family court or housing court.
That’s why, now more than ever, Big Law must step up and support legal aid in a bigger way.
