Domestic Violence Survivor Helps Others Overcome Abuse

The story of Julie Strickland, a former client, who said the non-profit helped save her life and she wants others to get that chance, too.

“I have no doubt that, with the Texas Advocacy Project’s help, my life was saved,” said Strickland.

Several years ago, Strickland was in a dangerously abusive marriage. But one phone call to Texas Advocacy Project changed everything.

“They have helped me get a divorce and move my children and myself to a safer place where I’ve been able to continue on with my life, get an education and get a better job,” she said.

The mother of five is no longer a client, but Strickland continues to volunteer with Texas Advocacy Project. Most recently, she has been helping out with the non-profit’s Handbags for Hope drive.
