Although two major companies pulled out of the marketplace, there still are options available and Schrage encourages people to enroll early during the open enrollment period from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, 2017.

“People who have a Coventry or United Healthcare plan won’t get canceled right away, but they need to enroll prior to Jan. 1 in order to avoid a gap in coverage,” Schrage said.

She added that the exit of the major insurers does cause changes to the Marketplace landscape, but other carriers, such as Cigna, still are part of the program.

“It is a hit but it is probably not going to be a tidal wave,” Schrage said. “I would recommend people call to discuss their options to get a plan that best suits their needs.

“It is always a good idea to weigh options to make sure you are getting affordable prices,” she added.
