DETAILS
New York receives about $21 million a year in Legal Services Corp. funding, according to a recent New York Law Journal article. The state’s largest civil legal services provider, Legal Services NYC, would not be able to help 20,000 city residents without the $12 million federal allotment it receives.
North of the city, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley would be unable to serve more than 4,000 people with free legal services if its $1.7 million share is cut.
The same stories would be told throughout the state and the country.
