DETAILS

We both belong to the Leadership Council of the Campaign for Legal Services, which raises private funds for NHLA and a sister-organization, the Legal Advice and Referral Center. At our recent annual kick-off breakfast, Cindy Tebbetts told the story of her daughter, Kelly. Kelly, who had cerebral palsy and cancer, and was confined to a wheelchair her entire life. She had the good fortune, however, of being able to live in a home in which she had been given a life estate by a family friend.

That life estate was threatened when the home went into foreclosure. Without NHLA, Kelly would have been homeless. But because she had access to legal aid, she was able to fight for her home, and keep it, until the day she died.
