DETAILS

A number of older and even historic Newtown family homes could be part of a new pilot program designed to clear up title issues on long-held properties.

The Florida Bar’s “No Place Like Home” program is a new effort starting next month in five areas, including Sarasota, in concert with local legal aid groups and volunteer attorneys to help low-income property owners with title defects.

Issues with a home’s title can prevent owners from financing repairs, obtaining community development funds or even receiving federal aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency after a storm — a particularly relevant concern after Hurricane Irma’s damage across the state last month.
