Nonetheless, civil legal aid programs around the state turn away approximately 65 percent of eligible residents who seek services — nearly 45,000 people each year — due to lack of funding. That’s why representatives Ruth Balser and Claire Cronin are sponsoring a budget amendment to increase the total civil legal aid funding by an additional $2 million. I hope Rep. David Linsky will continue his long-standing support for civil legal aid by supporting the amendment.
