DETAILS

More than half a million North Carolinians have insurance this year through the ACA, often called Obamacare. Efforts to repeal it have gotten a lot of attention over the past couple of years but have failed so far, although there have been some changes that are likely to affect the number of people who enroll.

“The ACA is still the law and it’s working,” Jacyln Kiger, a managing attorney for Pisgah Legal Services said. “From 2013 to 2016, we have seen a dramatic reduction in the uninsured population, not only here in Western North Carolina but across our entire state.”
