Diane Young, private attorney involvement support specialist for Legal Aid, said the private, nonprofit organization uses grant money and other sources of funding to ensure its resources are available free of charge to those who need it most.

“We only do civil legal services for qualified individuals,” she said. “They have to meet our eligibility standards. We go by income, the number (of people) in the family and assets.”

The cases Legal Aid’s team handles range from domestic violence and consumer protection to wills and estate planning, Young said.
