Expungement clinic helps provide step toward better jobs for ex-convicts

With the Department of Corrections' help, about 15 lawyer volunteers pulled criminal record files and filled out documents to start the expungement process, which can take several months.

He and more than 100 other men and women with criminal records crowded into a cavernous warehouse at Goodwill Industries’ complex on East Broadway in downtown Louisville Friday morning looking for help wiping the slate clean at an expungement clinic.

There were parents with young children in tow, single men, and couples filling out paperwork and waiting to have their numbers called. Before they left, each person eligible for free help had seen a Legal Aid Society lawyer.
