DETAILS

Lakeshore has been helping low-income and elderly individuals for 52 years, but only opened regional offices to serve Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties within the last two years.

“We’ve had several people come in and mention how grateful they are to have a legal aid office in their community,” Jennings said. “Otherwise they’d be going downtown, which is difficult for people with transportation issues. We become part of the community and part of the solution.”

In addition to eviction and habitability matters, Lakeshore also assists with issues surrounding bankruptcy, criminal record expungement and access to public benefits, among other things.
