JusticeVoices Network Scores Super Bowl Wins

Think creatively: The Super Bowl is one of many news hooks that present opportunities to use your work to communicate what civil legal aid is, and why it matters. If you have ideas for op-eds you would like to write, we are happy to talk you through it and help with structure, edits, and placement.

Here’s a shoutout to JusticeVoices network members Stephanie Rector, Ishbel Dickens and Jay Doran: Congratulations on your op-ed placements pegged to the Super Bowl!

Stephanie’s How to Save a Life in the Time It Takes to Watch the Super Bowl (Huffington Post, 2/7/16), and Ishbel and Jay’s Legal aid is big help to survivors of domestic violence (The Olympian, 2/6/16) provide excellent fodder for social media posts this week.

So does Yes, Super Bowl Sunday is a crisis for domestic violence – just like every other day (2/5/16), Martha’s second recent op-ed for Fox News Opinion on the importance of civil legal aid in combating domestic violence.

After Martha’s first piece ran in early January, she was invited to write another pegged to the Super Bowl – evidence that placing the piece you’ve been meaning to write could yield future opportunities.

The Fox invitation inspired a JusticeVoices network solicitation titled, “Super Bowl + Domestic Violence = Op-Ed Opportunity.” These three placements are the worthwhile result.

Stephanie is a student at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, and has been a legal intern at both Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County and California Women’s Law Center. Ishbel chairs the Washington State Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Board, and Jay is education director of the Equal Justice Coalition, a civil legal aid advocacy organization.

We worked closely with these authors as they developed their pieces.
