What’s on deck for Voices Training in 2017?

March 31, 2017 - 2:44 pm
Last year, across the country, Voices trained more than 500 civil legal aid advocates in the building blocks of “Communications Planning” and “Persuasive Messaging.” In 2017 we are adding to that curriculum, developing advanced trainings for graduates of our 2016 training.

At Voices for Civil Justice, a critical component of our mission to build a national identity for civil legal aid is creating an army of media-savvy messengers. We have built a large network of advocates who understand the importance of communication and media in building support for civil legal aid.

Voices’ training docket for 2017 reflects how far we have come in that endeavor. Our task now – in addition to continuing to build the network – is to give those advocates who are willing and ready to speak up the tools they need to do it well.
We are excited to announce that Voices is once again partnering with Management Information Exchange (MIE) to offer media and communications training in a national setting. This year the training will take place over one-and-a-half days (July 19 & 20), in conjunction with MIE’s annual National Fundraising Conference in Washington, DC.
The 2017 Voices training will offer two tracks –

  • Fundamental Communication Skills, including “Persuasive Messaging for Civil Legal Aid” and “Strategic Communications Planning,” and
  • Advanced Media Skills, comprising two new sessions: “Newsworthiness and Media Pitching” and “Op-Ed Writing.” These sessions will be designed to help advocates sharpen and apply the fundamental skills they developed in our 2016 trainings.

The two tracks will be offered simultaneously, and all participants will be together for plenary sessions covering the latest in messaging and storytelling specific to civil legal aid.
Mark your calendars for Voices training in DC, July 19-20! Details, including registration information, to come soon.
