Amazon’s General Counsel David Zapolsky, in his op-ed today for Fortune, makes the case that American corporations have a major stake in keeping America’s promise of equal justice under law.
In Top Amazon Lawyer: ‘Justice for All’ Requires More Funding and Innovation, Zapolsky argues that ending the crisis in America’s civil justice system will require a variety of solutions. Adequate funding for civil legal aid is one of the most important, and he calls on Congress to increase funding for the Legal Services Corporation. But he also calls for the range of other reforms and innovations necessary to address the crisis and assigns responsibility to corporations like his to be part of the solution.
“All parties should agree – as do some of the country’s biggest and most successful corporations – that every American, regardless of economic status or zip code, deserves access to legal help,” Zapolsky writes. “The private and public sectors need to work together to fix the broken civil justice system and ensure justice for all.”
